Why are we so quick to assume we’re not ‘real writers’?
For years, I struggled with the sense that if I hit a road bump in my writing, this must be proof that I didn’t know what I was doing.
If it was hard to write one day, the critic piped up, “If you were a REAL WRITER, this would be no problem for you.”
No problem might be a bit strong, but actually, I have learned that the critic was telling more of the truth here than it intended.
