Timely blog posts! I’m reworking a short story that didn’t deserve its ending (and never satisfied me) into a novel, with taboo themes in and within the plot. Thanks to your WoS it seems feasible and exciting, but some trepidation interrupted the flow from planning to writing 😂. I managed to write 100 words today 🥳! And fear will come up again and again I’m sure. Ironically, the emotion I associate most closely with fear is sadness, but that’s a conversation with my therapist ❤️‍🩹.

Fear does come back around, for sure. But if we see it as an indication that there is life and energy in the topic, it’s less likely to shut us down. I can see fear and sadness pairing up, absolutely. A lot of fear is about not wanting to be hurt, right? I’m always in favor of more therapy, though — support and insight for the win, every time. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

So much yes to all of this! I have felt this especially in the last few years as I chose to shift away from writing in genres comfortable to me and into new ones. Fear can be thrilling!

Yay for chasing the thrill! As soon as I decided that fear meant I was onto something, I could take so many more risks and writing got much more exciting. Keep us posted on how it unfolds for you as you explore new genres- that sounds like a big adventure. What's been the most thrilling new-to-you genre so far?

Memoir for sure. So much to work out and work through when deciding to tell that kind of story.

Yessss. Love this! Thanks for sharing that. When we can confirm that we‘re safe in our surroundings, I‘d say this is a solid reframe.
