I am always eager to sit down with a cup of coffee and read the words of Lisa Olivera. I am awed by the bravery and openness of health stories by Madeliene Muller and Kate Speer. Art by Sue Clancy and Candace Rose and PerfectLight delights me. I love everyone in the Threadstack Directory especially Lia Pas, Elin Petronella, and Claudia Wool.

These are beautiful, Kathryn! I have really enjoyed reading Elin Petronella this year, too. I'm eager to check out the others you've mentioned. Thank you for introducing us!

I mean to state the obvious I'd say Katherine May. Her writing is so pure.

She is truly wonderful, and I've been thrilled to see the outpouring of love for Wintering this year. How exciting to see it back on so many bestseller lists!

I am grateful for Abigail Thomas' writing (she's on Substack but I can't seem to tag). Her conviction on writing with a beginner's mind changed the way I stuttered with my writing. Also Deborah Levy and Jonathan Foster's incredible stories.

Love Deborah Levy and Abigail Thomas as well. If you restack with a note, that seems to be the only way to tag people and thank them directly. I'll check out Jonathan Foster -- thanks for the tip!

I forgot about that! Thank you for reminding me ❤️

Wow! What a great question.

I’m grateful for:

Elizabeth Gilbert and her Letters from Love, are both inspiring and lovely. Katherine May and her Sunday prompts that get me back to my own practice. Austin Kleon discovers such consistently fabulous creative links, the brilliant women at The Shit No One Tells You About Writing who share such valuable and inspiring and REAL insights into what can be a daunting industry, Linda Sivertsen and her Beautiful Writers group are a blessing, Writing in the Dark with Jeannine Ouellette provides such a warm community and plenty to read, Katherine Center and Alice Hoffman for offering such inspiring examples, Catherine Skinner a friend and talented finder of inspiration and Christina Yother who simply makes everything better. If I don’t stop at 10 I’ll just keep going all day. Thanks for the reminder to get back to it! xoL

I can't seem to do tags, but here it goes: @Kate Spicer, @Anne Boyd, @Lindsay Johnstone are my recent favourites here. And in printed books, Emily Pine, Nina Stibbe, Cathy Retzenbrink, Deborah Levy and Lauren Elkin.

The tag thing is annoyingly impossible to do in a comment, but if you restack the post, you can tag them there so you can see. These are wonderful shares, and I'm certain they would enjoy the love.

Some new to me discoveries this year - Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie novels; Yaa Gyasi and Jeff Zentner. And a firm favourite for many years - Elif Shafak.

I love the Jackson Brodie books as well, and definitely an Elif Shafak fan!

I'll kick us off:

@Allison Epstein's Dirtbags through the Ages is a piece of joyful magic. It's my favorite kind of history: the laugh out loud takedown of terrible historical figures. https://rapscallison.substack.com/

What a great question.

I'm always grateful for the joy, clarity and inspiration that David Whyte's poetry brings.

I've also been so inspired and grateful this year for all of the writing inspired by Liz Gilbert's Letters from Love, here on Substack. From the guest letters to everyone's responses, I've found it all to be such a treasure and am so thankful Liz started it!
